Lightning Now Officially Supports SeaMonkey 2!

You might already have read about the release of Lightning 1.0 Beta 1 - maybe you even remember my earlier posts about SeaMonkey 2 and Lightning. And now here's the good news, right from the announcement the calendar team made:
Quote:
Lightning now supports SeaMonkey 2.0 as a host application

You can install Lightning 1.0 Beta 1 from AMO and manage your calendars now directly from within the SeaMonkey Mail & Newsgroups component.

We have been working closely with the calendar team to make Lightning work as well as possible within SeaMonkey, but we're also sure things can be improved further, and any help is appreciated.
Also, both the SeaMonkey and calendar teams appreciate testing of this Beta and reporting bugs, so we can make your calendaring experience with SeaMonkey and Lightning even better in the future!

This is especially important because IIUC the upcoming Sunbird 1.0 release is going to be "the last Sunbird release ever"... unless, of course, the freestanding Calendar finds a group of enthusiastic supporters to maintain it, the way the Suite did when Mozilla left it out in the cold.

IOW, anyone using Sunbird will sooner or later have to migrate to Lightning (unless...), and this means having Lightning work on top of one's mailer. I did exactly this when Sunbird nightly and daily builds both temporarily stopped being made for several consecutive days recently, and the "Calendar tab" in Sm-Mail is almost identical to the Sunbird display; plus, the 3-pane MailNews window now receives an optional "Today Pane" on the right with the events of the day. Lightning preferences are a new "section" in the Suite's preferences window, etc.

All in all, a very successful integration, I'd say.

wrong
Tony: Sunbird *0.9* is the *last* Sunbird release. There won't be a "Sunbird 1.0" release.

@Adrian:
Then what about Sunbird 1.0 beta, which (from what I read on #calendar and on b.m.o.) is going to be released some time soon?

Tony: hmmm, looks like I missed that. The latest information I had (from October 2009) was, that there won't be any further Sunbird release, because of not enough manpower...

Cool
Finally, Calendar is back in Netsc... SeaMonkey!!!
Was about time!

Damn:

"Lightning" could not be installed because it is not compatible with your SeaMonkey build type (Linux_x86_64-gcc3). Please contact the author of this item about the problem.

Ok, better luck next time! ;-)
